The OK Factor
Friday, October 23, 2020 - 7:30 PM
The OK Factor

Playful and unexpected, new-classical crossover duo The OK Factor writes and performs folk-inspired music influenced by multiple genres, with an artistry that reveals their classical training. Cellist Olivia Diercks and violinist Karla Colahan find great joy in defying expectations and delivering an experience outside of what audiences anticipate from a cello and violin combo. Organic and genuine, their original compositions feel both comfortingly familiar and uniquely fresh, and have been described as "genre-bending" (Julie Amacher, MPR) and "pure magic" (Wausau Pilot & Review). The ease with which they write and perform and their passion for educational outreach has caught the attention of the Minnesota music community in which they live and work, bringing them success on stages such as The Cedar Cultural Center, as frequent featured artists with Minnesota Public Radio, and as finalists for the McKnight Fellowships for Musicians in 2018. Olivia and Karla invite audiences to explore music and cultivate a curiosity about its role in their lives. "They clearly have influences in Americana and Irish/Gaelic fiddle styles, but with the virtuosity of classical performers...They are great advocates for the potential of folk-inspired music." - CLAIRE PHILPOTT, CLASSICAL MPR

A Romantic Evening with Jackie Allen
Friday, February 12, 2021 - 7:30 PM
A Romantic Evening with Jackie Allen

With her smoky and suggestive voice, distinctive phrasing, and improvisatory chops, Jackie Allen is a true jazz singer. A Romantic Evening with Jackie Allen presents a mix of musical styles, from classic jazz tunes to up-tempo swing numbers, soulful R&B, lush ballads, and jaunty sambas. A natural storyteller, she can interpret jazz ballads with great sensitivity and fluently transform pop tunes into the jazz idiom.

Over a career spanning four decades, renowned vocalist Jackie Allen has recorded a dozen CDs that have garnered wide critical acclaim. Downbeat Magazine said that her last album, Rose Fingered Dawn, displays "polished virtuosity... a shimmering paradigm of stylish and sophisticated jazz singing." Allen was recently featured on PBS with a film version of A Romantic Evening with Jackie Allen. The film has aired across the country on over 200 stations in 46 states. Filmed live in Lincoln, Nebraska at the Rococo Theater, Allen brought her longtime recording band from Chicago to Lincoln for this performance.

With its stellar musicianship and Allen's smooth, emotive vocals, A Romantic Evening with Jackie Allen has the kind of intimate feel that pairs beautifully with a candlelight dinner and a bottle of good champagne.

Ring of Kerry
Sunday, March 14, 2021 - 3:00 PM
Ring of Kerry

Ring of Kerry is at times a raucous pub band enticing its crowd to sing along, stomp their feet and to join in the merriment. Yet in other moments, they are beautifully serenading their audience, completely unplugged and playing acoustically. Ring of Kerry's specialty, however, is playing highly energetic and engaging stage concerts including fully costumed Irish step dancers.

Each band member brings their own musical influences and expertise to the group and takes an active role in creating the Ring of Kerry sound. They all sing, play several instruments and revel in the spirit of Celtic music.

Ring of Kerry is a unique blend of Paul Finegan Cotton's thundering, yet at times delicate bodhran playing...Paul Blondell's lilting good-natured fiddle and mandolin...Charlie Roth's sizzling guitar and songwriting...Paul Imholte's bright hammered dulcimer and mandolin...and Emma Andreasen's beautiful vocals and haunting flute and pennywhistle.

The Music of Billy Joel & Elton John, Starring Michael Cavanaugh
Sunday, April 11, 2021 - 3:00 PM
The Music of Billy Joel & Elton John, Starring Michael Cavanaugh

Michael Cavanaugh, star of Broadway’s "Movin' Out," presents The Music of Billy Joel and Elton John. The show features Michael at the piano, performing the greatest hits of these two rock piano legends. Songs include: Piano Man, Rocket Man, Bennie and the Jets, Movin' Out, I'm Still Standing, My Life, and many more.

Michael was handpicked by Billy Joel to star in the hit Broadway musical "Movin' Out," and received both Tony and Grammy nominations in the lead role. Billboard calls him the "New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook."

Michael began playing at age seven, when his parents bought their first piano. Encouraged by family and friends, and inspired by his hero Billy Joel, Michael formed his first band at age 10 and began playing local functions, fine-tuning the craft that would become his chosen career. While Michael was playing at the New York, New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Billy Joel spotted him and joined him on stage. It only took two songs before Billy was convinced that he had found his new Piano Man: Michael Cavanaugh. Michael closed up shop at New York, New York and moved to New York City to work alongside Billy Joel and Twyla Tharp to shape the Broadway Musical that would be called Movin' Out. With the close of Movin' Out at the end of 2005, Michael began touring in his own right, creating a show that reinterprets the modern pop/rock songbook.
